For many years, Seward residents have joined together in the interest of our natural environment. Ongoing projects serve the goal of protecting the Mississippi River bluff, protecting our lakes from pollution, and raising awareness of dangers in our air and soil. From community gardens to compost education and alternative power sources, the Environment Committee has always worked hard together to improve our quality of life. Current projects
Climate Change Innovations Project Grant Report from the SNG Environment CommitteeOur joint project with Longfellow Neighborhood to educate our neighbors about Climate Change and steps they can take to slow it couldn't have been a success without the contributions of many volunteers and a great community business, Welna Hardware. Jim Welna gave us great rates for electric lawnmowers, compact fluorescent light bulbs, and thermostats. In addition to the 300 light bulbs allotted to our program, Jim sold an additional 950 from King's Fair to mid-December. Lots of people who came into the store talked about the project with him and his staff and thought it was a great thing for the neighborhood to do with him. Jim said to make sure to let people know that he will take old fluorescent light bulbs and thermostats from Seward residents to properly recycle. We don't have to drive to Bloomington or Brooklyn Center to recycle them.
